Defa's Appetite

When words are no longer sensible, pictures are the one that keep us sane

Kopi Selasar, 1 Oct 2011.

For me, a cup of coffee is more than what meets the eye. It’s a magic connecting liquid between the past, present and the future. Whenever I had a sip, certain type of coffee reminds me of certain someone or certain circumstances. Whenever I walked into a coffee shop, it will remind me of a person I went with, or why did I go there and who might be coming with me again.

When I was away from home, I started to drink Kopi Kapal Api because it reminds me of  my dad and home. The smell of his coffee and how we like to sit altogether with the whole gang with cups of Kapal Api in the table.

Then I went back to Indonesia, and I started to drink Nescafe 3 in 1 and pour a bit of milk on top of it. It reminds me of my flat mate, Susi. How I always stole (well, she did let me to take as much as I want, anytime I need it :p) that coffee from her cupboard and drank it together in the stairway in front of our flat in between all the dissertation madness. Another  time, I ordered Turkish coffee, the one served in a tiny cup because well, it brings back the memories of how I used to spend time with my friends in the dining room where my Turkish friends always offer Turkish coffee (where they have no decency to tell me that they drink it without sugar haha..)

But long long time before my adventure with those three types of coffee, I came across with this place, Selasar. I wasn’t a fan of coffee, though I have always been a huge fan of coffee shop. So whenever I went to Starbucks or local coffee shops, I always ordered tea or chocolate. Never, ever coffee. Not until I found this place. Selasar somehow makes it so difficult for you to not fall in love with coffee. Of course, there were ‘stories’ behind my undying love with Selasar but this is not the time, yet.

Let me present you, Kopi Selasar, Bandung:
